“Bike Across Minnesota” Fundraiser

The Need

The current economic climate has resulted in severe cuts to funding for higher education. One result of such cuts is the loss of funding for Conservation Biology students to attend professional conferences and workshops. Attending conferences is a critical aspect of the scientific process and allows us to inform other professionals and the public about our work. In the past year, Conservation Biology graduate students gave 105 presentations at professional conferences, and we hope to continue this strong record.

The Event

Graduate students in the Conservation Biology program are holding a bike relay across Minnesota as a fundraising campaign. The route will be west to east, starting at the ND border and ending on the shores of lake superior, traversing 400 miles in four days. This route will span three distinct biomes: prairie grassland, deciduous forest, and coniferous forest, highlighting the remarkable biodiversity of Minnesota.

The Goal

  • Raise $15,000 to replace missing conference travel funds
  • All donations are tax-deductible
  • Donors will be officially recognized on relay support materials, acknowledgement letters, and student presentations
  • Questions can be addressed to the relay coordinators Marcus Beck (beckx266@umn.edu) and Kyle Chezik (kchezik@umn.edu)
