Opportunities for Graduate Study

Students pursue MS or PhD degrees while in my lab as part of the following graduate programs:

Conservation Biology
Applied Plant Sciences
Water Resources Science
Ecology, Evolution and Behavior

Links to these programs are provided on this page (left). Each program web site describes the focus and scope of the program, as well as admissions procedures and required coursework.

Most programs at the University of Minnesota have "rolling admissions", so it is possible to be considered for admission year-round. However, fellowships and assistantships are awarded in the spring of each year for entry the following fall. To receive maximum consideration for funding, it is important to have your application materials in December or January (depending on the program).

The availability of new positions in my lab typically depends on research assistantships through grants. Fellowships through the Graduate School and the NSF Introduced Species IGERT (see link) are also available for students with strong academic credentials.

If you are interested in graduate study, contact me via email (galat001@umn.edu). Be sure to describe your interests and academic preparation.
